In 2019 Unfortunately, Mel had to move back to Chicago due to his mother becoming ill and passing. He then met his wife Tudy whom he’s known since 1994. His high school sweetheart. He decided to make her a hoagie one day because he really couldn’t find a hoagie shop in Chicago that topped his hoagie flavor. She tasted it and was hooked! She told him to start making them for their friends and family in Chicago! The hoagies once again became popular! Everyone kept asking about the flavor and that’s when Mel came up with the name Mel’s California Hoagies! Soon after due to the hoagie’s instant popular growth, Mel and his wife Tudy both decided to invest! They believed a takeout hoagie restaurant should be established.
Their first shop was formed in 2023 located at 3950 Vollmer Rd Flossmoor IL 60422. Mel’s California Hoagies restaurant offers great customer service with a traditional family-oriented menu. They have special signature sandwiches such as turkey, ham, veggie, and more! Their hoagies are also named after their loved ones who passed throughout the years including both their beloved mothers.
Mel’s California Hoagies partnered with the owners of Tornado smoke shops! The hoagies are now sold at most of their locations. They also offer Uber Eats!
